Minuteman Monthly Issue 4 (November 2000) As the multitude of Minuteman Monthly subscribers receive this month's newsletter, the most important election cycle in the last 50 years is about to commence. Election Day 2000 is on Tuesday November 7th. The 70 million + lawful gun owners can send a powerful message to the members of our three levels of government. All three levels of government (Federal, State and local) must get the strongest message possible concerning our feelings on the Second Amendment. In the past few months, active and involved gun owners from all walks of life have tried to get lawful gun owners registered to vote in this election cycle. I commend all of them for their phenomenal efforts in this regard. Making sure that America's gun owning public get to the polls on Tuesday is essential to the future of this country. Again, I fear that if the Democrats gain control of both houses of Congress and the White House, we could literally see the end of lawful gun ownership as we now know it. But, I subscribe to the thoughts of some of our forefathers and modern Constitutional Law scholars who hold the belief that any law that violates the original intention of the Constitution is null and void and need not be obeyed. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Allow me to quote: "An act against the Constitution is void. An act against natural equity is void." James Otis (1725-1783) ____________________________________ "The supreme power in America cannot enforce unjust laws by the sword, because the whole body of the people are armed, and constitute a force superior to any band of regular troops..." Noah Webster, An Examination of The Leading Principles of the Federal Constitution, Philadelphia 1787 ____________________________________ "Congress has no power to disarm the militia. Their swords, and every other terrible implement of the soldier, are the birth-right of an American. . . . The unlimited power of the sword is not in the hands of either the federal or state governments, but, where I trust in God it will ever remain, in the hands of the People." Tench Coxe, Pennsylvania Gazette, February 20, 1788. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ If the tens of thousands of gun clubs in the country, made sure their individual members got a chance to vote in the November 7th election, we could make sure that we are not going to have another anti-Second Amendment administration. But Marc, what can gun clubs do to help? They can: 1.) Send out a message either by mail or phone to each member to make sure they will make it to the polls. 2.) Make sure that transportation is available for those who don't have access to a car for whatever reason. Gun clubs can even rent a van or bus to make sure gun owners can get to vote. 3.) Make certain that their members have not been misled by campaign advertisements and they know for certain which candidates properly represent the pro-gun view. MAKE SURE YOUR GUN CLUB IS DOING AT LEAST ONE OF THESE THINGS. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ I realize of course that to some extent, in these Minuteman Monthly Newsletters, I have been "preaching to the choir". However, my sincere hope is that these newsletters are being forwarded, printed, posted, faxed, and distributed more widely than to just my subscribers. I have every confidence that supermarket bulletin boards, community news boards and electronic message boards all over the country have copies or excerpts from these newsletters on them. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Have you sent an E-mail to the President lately? Have you encouraged others to do so? How about the U.S. House of Representatives Democratic Leaders? If not, here is another opportunity. President@whitehouse.gov d.leadership@mail.house.gov +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ What is coming for www.Savetheguns.com? I have many things planned in the near future. I have posted a brand new page: http://www.savetheguns.com/government_links.htm . On this "Government Links" page, I want to place: * Links to the founding documents of the United States. * Links to each homepage of the fifty States. * Links to contact information for each of the fifty State Governors. * Links to each State's Constitution. * Links to the contact information on all statewide legislators. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ I plan on expanding my product line from just t-shirts and pin-on buttons to more useful things that the average gun owner can use. I have plans to sell trigger locks, personal gun safes, and many other things. But I must be honest with you first. I am quickly running out of money. I had zero sales in the months of September and October. Not even a single pro-gun button or T-shirt was sold. No donations have been received by WWW.SAVETHEGUNS.COM since the site was posted here is January of 2000. Nothing, not even a roll of pennies. Don't get me wrong, I am not discouraged. My country, liberty, freedom and my rights mean more to me than my dwindling bank account. But the fact remains that Savetheguns.com will be totally void of money by Late Spring 2001. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ UNITED STATES JUSTICE DEPARTMENT Some of you might have read about the comments made by a United States Justice Department lawyer during the Emerson case. If you have not seen these comments on this case, go here now... http://www.gunnery.net/RKBA/emerson.html . It seems as though the official Justice Department position in this case is that the Second Amendment ONLY refers to a State's right to form militias and the militia's right to bear arms. In fact, the United States Justice Department holds the position that the Second Amendment ONLY protects the firearms of those currently enrolled in the National Guard, AND ONLY PROTECTS the firearms that are used in the service of the National Guard. The Justice Department feels that even the private arms of National Guardsmen are subject to government restriction. The Founding Fathers did not hold this inaccurate position, however. _____________________________________ "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." Thomas Jefferson, Proposed Virginia Constitution, 1776 _____________________________________ "Arms in the hands of individual citizens [may] be used at individual discretion...in private self-defense..." John Adams, A Defense of the Constitution of Government of the United States of America, 1788 _____________________________________ "(The Constitution preserves) the advantage of being armed which Americans possess over the people of almost every other nation...(where) the governments are afraid to trust the people with arms." James Madison, The Federalist, Number 46 _____________________________________ "Arms in the hands of the citizens may be used at individual discretion for the defense of the country, the overthrow of tyranny or private self-defense." John Adams _____________________________________ "The power of the sword, say the minority of Pennsylvania, is in the hands of Congress. My friends and countrymen, it is not so, for the powers of the sword are in the hands of the yeomanry of America from 16 to 60. The militia of these free commonwealths, entitled and accustomed to their arms, when compared with any possible army, must be tremendous and irresistible. Who are the militia? Are they not ourselves? It is feared, then, that we shall turn our arms each man against his own bosom? Congress has no power to disarm the militia. Their swords, and every other terrible implement of the soldier, are the birthright of an > American. The unlimited power of the sword is not in the hands of either the federal or state governments, but where I trust in God it will ever remain, in the hands of the people." Tench Coxe, writing as "the Pennsylvanian" in the Philadelphia Federal Gazette, 1788 ____________________________________ "All persons shall bear arms, and every male person shall have in continual readiness a good musket or other gun, fit for service." Connecticut Gun Code of 1650 ================================= +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ ================================= You see, the argument that the United States Justice Department holds in the Emerson case completely revolves around the ungrounded and delusive belief that the Militia Act of 1903 changed to meaning of the word militia enough to change the meaning of the Second Amendment too!!! The fact is that no part of the Militia Act of 1903 or the National defense Act of 1916 or any Act or Law since then, has the power to change the meaning of the Second Amendment. The ONLY way for the Justice Department's version of the Second Amendment to hold any water, there would have to be a Constitutional convention held to change the Second Amendment to reflect their new version of the word militia. That is plain, simple, cold fact. ____________________________________ Last word for this issue: This is the very last communication I will make regarding the November 7th election. Why should we vote for George W. Bush? 12 Reasons 1. Abortion? Bush wants to push for less abortion and more adoption. Gore thinks that partial birth abortion where the baby's brain has to be scrambled for success, is just fine for him. _______________________________ 2. Military Spending? Bush wants to strengthen our military and upgrade our preparedness, back to where it was before we pushed Saddam Hussein back to Iraq. Gore is part of the current administration's slashing of our military to a hazardous level. Under the current administration we have lost 709,000 Regular (active duty) Service Personnel, 293,000 Reserve Troops, Eight (8) Standing Army Divisions, 2,000 combat aircraft, 232 Strategic Bombers, 13 Submarines and four (4) aircraft carriers. We have lost enough of our military strength under the current administration to fully equip another entire country. _______________________________ 3. Second Amendment? Bush believes in the original intention of the Second Amendment and believes that lawful gun owners are not a problem. He knows that those willing or inclined to commit violent crime don't bother with firearm permits and gun control. Gore thinks that lawful gun ownership is dangerous and wants to restrict the Constitutional Right to own the firearm of our choice. He thinks that the BATF and the FBI should know what firearms are owned by whom.....this of course is a precursor to future confiscation as was done in Great Britain and Australia. _______________________________ 4. Honesty? Bush has been remarkably honest in all areas of his life. Gore lied twenty one (21) times during the first presidential debate alone. _______________________________ 5. Campaign Reform? Bush has made great strides in campaign reform, and wants to do more. Gore raises his right hand for campaign reform, but with his left hand has accepted ILLEGAL campaign donations from the Chinese government, Buddhist Temple and through vote buying on special interest legislation in Congress.  _______________________________ 6. Taxes? Bush thinks that taxes are too high and that the American Citizens can do a better job of spending for their families than the government can. He knows that we can spend down the national debt AND afford a tax cut too. Gore thinks that our high tax rate is just fine where it is. He thinks that the Clinton-Gore marriage penalty tax is just fine and should not be repealed. _______________________________ 7. Death Penalty? Bush is for Capital Punishment. He thinks that those vile and heinous evildoers who think nothing of the sanctity of life should also die once they get caught. Gore thinks that those same vile and heinous evildoers and vicious murderers should be supported with our tax dollars. That they should have access to government paid college degrees and other amenities that the average working family cannot even afford.  _______________________________  8. Balance of Power? Bush thinks as the Founding Fathers did. He thinks that a powerful central government is a dangerous thing and that more power and more decisions should be left to the States. Gore thinks that the Federal Government knows best and wants more federal programs. _______________________________ 9. Foreign Policy? Bush would be better at foreign policy without a single doubt. He would surround himself with the top military minds in the country. His runningmate Dick Cheney was Secretary of Defense under his father and is a foreign policy genius. Gore would continue the same Middle East failures as the current administration. Saddam Hussein would continue to get away with no nuclear inspectors. Iraq and terrorist organizations would not be brought to justice as has happened under Clinton-Gore. _______________________________ 10. Energy? Bush thinks that we should not rely so much on oil for our energy needs and believes that we should have a comprehensive energy policy to make sure we have more alternatives in the future. Gore would continue the same old NON-EXISTENT energy policy of the current administration. Our nearly total dependence on foreign oil has been a disaster and is a dangerous plan.  _______________________________  11. Economy? Bush would enhance the low inflation, low unemployment and low interest rates that are the result of the hard-won victories of the REPUBLICAN LED CONGRESS. Gore and a Democrat led Congress would spend us back to the days of the Carter Administration. Remember the last time we had both a Democrat Congress and a Democrat President...what a disaster....  _______________________________ 12. Social Security? Bush knows that there will not be enough wage earners in the next thirty years to support those retirees who would rely on Social Security. The current policy would fail, and George W. Bush has a plan for individual investment accounts where each Citizen plays more of a part in their own future and be more in charge of their own financial security. Gore also knows that Social Security will completely fail by 2025 or 2030. But he has no plan for that. I guess he thinks we should pass this burden off to our children who will have to figure it out for themselves. *********************************** ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Vote Freedom First. Vote for a better future. Vote George W. Bush on November 7th (Please pass this on to your whole Address Book, not just the ten people that you are normally asked to pass things on to)
