Welcome to this issue of the Minuteman Monthly Newsletter.  This is the monthly communication from my Web site at www.SaveTheGuns.com.  Thank you for reading this month's issue and for passing it on to a friend.

The campaign for President of the United States is getting a lot of press-time much earlier than in past election cycles.  Turning on the television or radio, the names Obama, Clinton, Guiliani, McCain, Edwards, Romney, Tancredo, Paul and Hunter are being heard much earlier than in past election cycles.  The last three are not being heard as often however.

I'm very disappointed at the popularity of the current field of candidates.  The only candidates who are getting any meaningful face-time on television are not worthy of being President of the United States.  Quite frankly, only the last three I mentioned Tancredo, Paul and Hunter are about the only three I'm looking at right now.

What is the best way to go about choosing a candidate for public office?  That's easy!  Start by comparing the candidate's core principles and political agenda to the Bill of Rights and freedom first.

MILITIA, in general, denotes the body of soldiers, or those who make profession of arms.  In a more restrained sense, militia denotes the trained bands of a town or country, who arm themselves, upon a short warning, for their own defence.  So that, in this sense, militia is opposed to regular or stated troops.  For the direction and command of the militia, the king constitutes lords-lieutenants of each country.

SaveTheGuns.com Gun Safety Tip of the Month

Make a good impression upon any non-gun owner when handling firearms in their presence.

Many times I have been cleaning firearms in the kitchen, either at home or at a relative's home and a non gun owner walks in and is immediately horrified that there is a real firearm on the table.

Most non gun owners get their firearm education from the nightly news and entertainment industry.  It's completely up to you to leave them with a good impression when they clearly see how conscientious and safe you are when handling a gun.

Don't look "put out" by their reaction.  Don't get aggressive with them.  Just be sure to leave non gun owners with a good impression of a law abiding gun owner.  I feel that if we could take every anti-gunner out target practicing at the range for a day, gun control groups would cease to exist.

My gun safety tip of the month is simply to take extra care when handling a firearm around people who don't know anything about guns or have an irrational fear of them.  Leave them with a good impression and you might convert an anti-gunner into a pro-gunner simply by your courtesy and conscientiousness.

A Brief Message on Parker

A brief message on the Washington D.C. gun ban reversal by the D.C. Circuit Appeals Court:

The Supreme Court of the United States (SCOTUS) won't touch this case!

The SCOTUS will not hear the Parker case in my opinion. I would be shocked completely out of my seat if it gets successfully appealed to the SCOTUS and it gets reversed. It simply won't happen.

The SCOTUS has never ruled that the Second Amendment's mention of the words "the people" means anything but the general population of the United States.

Even in the extremely unlikely event that the Parker case goes to the SCOTUS, it will not be ruled that the Second Amendment in the Bill of Rights solely refers to a state's power to raise a militia.

The mere idea that the SCOTUS will uphold the D.C. City Council's pathetic attempt to change U.S. history, is patently absurd.

The Founding Fathers wrote and spoke often about the right to keep and bear private arms. After all, it was EXACTLY what sparked the American Revolutionary War in the first place on April 19, 1775.

The SCOTUS cannot and will not ignore the Founding Fathers writings, speeches and opinions on this matter.

The Bill of Rights must stand and if it doesn't, the face of freedom, liberty and justice itself will be permanently changed.

If the SCOTUS hears the case and upholds the D.C. Circuit's decision 5-4 or 6-3 which is more likely if it gets heard, then each and every law regulating possession and carry of firearms can be held up to the confirmed meaning of the Second Amendment. Thereby voiding probably 20,000+ laws already on the books in fifty states and federal laws.

The SCOTUS won't touch it with a ten foot pole.

I do agree that because the Parker case was decided on Second Amendment grounds, it's the perfect case to finally solve the most controversial aspect of the Bill of Rights.

An upholding of Parker could erase seventy three years of gun control legislation. A reversal of Parker would outrage eighty million lawful firearm owners and would result in a drastic alteration of the Bill of Rights and the very face of freedom itself.

These two possible serious outcomes of a SCOTUS ruling on Parker is exactly why they won't touch it.

Some semblance of firearm rights will return to Washington D.C. residents and that's all that will occur if anything. Too many people are getting all worked up for nothing in my humble opinion, thinking that the end of gun rights is near.

I applaud the Parker Decision.  It's been the best news for the American concerned about their loss of firearm freedom in the past century.  We'll have to watch it very closely.

What is the best way to go about choosing a candidate for President of the United States?  Actually, what I should say is; what is the best way to go about choosing ANY candidate for public office?

Of course, you may have your very own method of choosing a candidate for public office and that is certainly your decision and yours alone.  But how should we go about making that choice really...  Is there even a best way to go about choosing an elected official?

It's my belief that there is indeed a best way to go about choosing a candidate to get behind for 2008.  In fact, what I'm about to say should seem so simple, but many of us don't even consider it until maybe it's too late.

First, look to the Bill of Rights.  Hold your candidates core principles and issues up to the Bill of Rights.  Take a close look at what they've done in the past and compare it to the Bill of Rights.  Does any of their positions on important issues violate anything at all in the Bill of Rights?

Obviously gun control is important to us.  The Second Amendment protects our freedom and the rest of the Constitution itself.  But what about the freedom of speech?  Does your candidate's position on campaign finance reform openly and brazenly violate the First Amendment's protection of freedom of political speech as does Senator John McCain's?

Have you actually looked closely at how many gun control bills were joyfully signed by Mitt Romney when he was Governor of Massachusetts?  How about Rudy Guiliani and his troublesome positions on gun control when he was Mayor of New York City?

Need I even mention the political aspirations of Hillary Clinton, Barack Hussein Obama, Joe Biden?

How about your candidate's position on the troublesome evolution of Eminent Domain and the obvious violations of the Fifth Amendment's protection of personal property without due process?

Do we as Americans even know the Bill of Rights enough to choose a political candidate or even a candidate for President of the United States?

Amendment I

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

We should first closely compare the Bill of Rights with the candidate's stand on current political issues.  We should make certain that anti-terrorism efforts and positions of a candidate do not violate the Fourth Amendment's protections.

The candidate's stand on the issue of the recent power-grab of Eminent Domain could violate the Fifth Amendment's protections.  If elected, it could get even worse.

But of course, I could go on for pages and pages on this topic, but I won't...

I will simply end this Minuteman Monthly Newsletter right here by saying that many of the current "front-runners" in the 2008 race have come out strongly against the Second Amendment either in past actions as Governors, Mayors or Congressmen.

If you look closely at each of the 2008 candidates for President of the United States, you would easily find that most of them have current positions or past actions that violate items protected by the Bill of Rights.

Biden, Clinton, Dodd, Edwards, Kucinich, Obama, Guiliani, McCain and Romney all fail the Bill of Rights test.  Unfortunately, these men (and Hillary) are the only people getting any meaningful press.

Once a candidate passes the Bill of Rights test, only then should they be considered on other issues such as Tax Reforms, Social Security, Abortion, Immigration, Energy, Healthcare, National Security and others.
