"Would a pellet gun be a good starting gun?"
A pellet gun is a fine choice for a young child's first gun. As long as the child takes the air gun very, very seriously. A pellet gun or BB gun, should never be regarded as a toy. All gun safety rules that apply to real firearms, also apply to air guns. An air gun uses compressed air or Carbon Dioxide (CO2) to fire the "bullet", so they are not true firearms. Nevertheless, air guns can permanently disable, injure or even kill someone else if they are mishandled. To be a "true" firearm, the gun would have to use gun powder to fire the projectile. Because air guns do not use gun powder, they are not real firearms, however, if they are misused or mishandled, they can be just as dangerous. Air guns should be stored properly at all times, just like a real firearm. They should not be used without competent supervision. They should NEVER, EVER, be pointed at another person. If the young child treats an air gun just like they would treat their first real firearm, the air gun is a great choice for a first gun. The most important aspect of considering an air gun for a child's first gun, is that the child takes this purchase very seriously and is made to treat the air gun like a real gun should be treated. "What is the first gun ever invented? Who invented it?"
Great question from a nine year old girl. This question has been asked many times. I get this question at least once a week. The

area.
Nobody
is
completely
certain
about
the
origin
and
inventor
of
the
very
first
firearm. The actual individual inventor of gun powder could have been a Chinese alchemist known as Sun-Sy-Miao. It wasn't until the year 904, that there was documentation of an approximate recipe for gun powder by a man from China named Siui-Tung. They used gun powder in their celebrations and military victory parties and as an incendiary device that could be mounted on arrows to start fires. In the year 1067, production of gun powder was put under the control of the Emperor of China. Gun powder was described in a book called Liber Ignum which means "Book of Fires" around the year 1225. In the year 1248 an English monk named Roger Bacon published a formula for gunpowder. Roger Bacon was known to have experimented with gunpowder in Europe between 1240 and 1270. Two of the three main ingredients of gun powder were known as "Chinese Salt" and "Chinese Snow", lending convincing credence to the notion that gun powder was invented in China. Today, we know the three ingredients of gunpowder as saltpeter, sulphur and charcoal. It was recorded that in the year 1259, the city of Melilla
defended itself against attack with a cannon. Nobody knows exactly what the first gun invented looks like, but it was more than likely a wooden pole, with a metal tube attached to it. Below is an example of a gun made in the late 1300's, but this is not the first gun made. A photo of the first gun made would be virtually impossible to find.
In the year 2000, a few firearms were discovered buried near the Tongjimen area of Nanjing in China. According to the markings, they were made in the year 1373. These are among the earliest firearms found, but because they were so well made, it is obvious that they had been making them for quite a while.

This question is a very difficult one to answer. Losing your temper and threatening anyone with a gun, pellet gun or real firearm is an extremely serious matter and is an unlawful criminal act. You had many options available to you for resolving your disagreement with your friend and under no circumstances was it warranted to threaten him with a bb gun. It was very wrong to use a bb gun to try to get your friend to take you seriously. When we are angry with a friend or playmate, making certain that they know exactly how you feel is very, very important. Most times when we have an argument with a friend that escalates to losing one's temper, the friend doesn't completely understand how you feel inside. Calmly talking out your conflict with your friend and trying to view things from his position and working out a compromise is the best way to resolve a conflict. There is never any excuse to use a bb gun or firearm to resolve your conflict. Using one in order to help solve a conflict will only bring on more serious problems that I am sure you never bargained for. Bringing a bb gun or other weapon into the equation will NOT solve the problem, but rather will make the problem worse. Even walking away from the argument and addressing the problem later would have been a much better solution. Please take a look at the following tips for peaceful conflict resolution:

You should NEVER EVER, EVER send someone your address through the Internet, unless you have your parent's permission and the giving the address is necessary for making a purchase or something like that. The Internet is becoming an extremely dangerous place as more and more bad people are finding ways to take advantage of young children. Your personal safety might be at risk. Now to address your question: I am very sorry to here that your friend died. I really mean that. Young people are the very future of this world and I am very saddened when I hear that a child has lost his/her life and their ability to affect the future. Today's children have the power to affect the course of the future of the world and to have a young child take their own life, is such a terrible waste that it makes me very, very sad. To address the firearm part of your question, I have stated in more than one place on this Web site, that a parent or guardian who is a gun owner and is merely hiding a loaded gun in their home is sending out an invitation to disaster, whether it is an unintentional accident or whether it offers access to a gun for young child who might be having suicidal thoughts. Guns in the home should never be kept loaded and hidden away!!! I cannot stress this enough. Simply hiding loaded guns in the home is not the way to go. However, a troubled young child who might be having suicidal thoughts, could go to such great lengths of effort that no safety measures will work. For parents who choose to keep a gun in the home for home protection and defense, there are many options available to keep the firearm quickly accessible, while making them inaccessible to unauthorized people. There are options available like quick access handgun safes that are able to read fingerprints and will open only for certain authorized individuals. There are also trigger locking devices that can be opened quickly with a key. As far as punishing parents, who don't take these basic safety measures seriously... I don't think anyone should be punished for not locking up all their firearms. Many times, laws that make people lock up all their guns, make those guns inaccessible for self defense. It should therefore be a very personal decision for everybody. Police officers who live by themselves and grandparents with 25 grandchildren would have two very different concerns with firearm storage. There is no way that a good law can be made that would be best for each situation. I think it is a freedom of choice issue that each person has to decide for themselves. I am sure that the parents of your friend would have chosen my advice, if they were able to turn back the clock. However, the right for law-abiding Citizens to own the firearm of their choice is indeed a natural right and has been part of the United States Constitution since 1791. We all should be on the lookout for troubled children and should offer our assistance whenever appropriate. Even if it is only to listen to somebody's personal problems and simply offer advice and support. Again, I am sorry that your friend is gone. Maybe someone else will read this story and change the way they are thinking. The future of the world is far too important to throw away. Sometimes, violent felons, gang members, drug dealers and suppliers, rapists and serial killers, illegally obtain and use firearms to kill people with. If you meant to ask, how many Americans are killed each year, by violent felons who choose to illegally use a firearm to assault someone, then the latest statistics I have seen from the Federal Bureau of Investigation and their comprehensive yearly study called the Uniform Crime Report (UCR), was 8,259 per year. 8,259 people were killed because of the illegal, immoral, uncivil and unlawful use of a firearm to commit murder. Now, on the other hand, one might ask, how many lives were saved and protected through the legal use of self-defense using guns, the number would have to be somewhere between one and a half million and two million lives (1,500,000 and 2,000,000). Some university studies have estimated the number of self-defense uses of guns to be even higher, approaching 2,500,000. I hope I answered your question!!! What government really needs to do is to punish felons when they choose a gun to commit a crime with. Regulating people who own guns and obey the law, does absolutely nothing to affect crime rates. "What happened on April 19, 1775 in history?"
What a great question. The answer is long and very involved, which I really don't have the time or the space to expand upon, however, I will do my best to give you a brief synopsis. On the evening of April 18, 1775 it was decided that Paul Revere, William Dawes and Samuel Prescott would sound the alarm that the British Army was sending 800 troops to Concord in order to raid an ammunition depot that was stored there by the Provincial Congress. The raiding of these munitions would render the entire Massachusetts Militia useless. The attempt to notify the Militia by Revere, Dawes and Prescott was successful, although it did not work exactly as planned. The Massachusetts Militia was alerted and on April 19, 1775, they met the 800 British Troops at Lexington and Concord. Captain John Parker who was in command of the small Massachusetts Militia contingent said "Don't fire unless fired upon." Later he then said "But if they want a war, let it begin here." Major Pitcairn who was in command of the British contingent demanded that the assembled colonial Minutemen "...lay down your arms and disperse...". Soon after, a shot rang out, which is known as the "shot heard round the world", and then the Revolutionary War was to follow over the next few years. The British were beaten badly by hundreds of Militiamen who were really farmers, ministers, doctors and men of every walk of life, who were tired of being mistreated by the most powerful country in the world at the time, which was Great Britain and its king, King George III. How old do you have to be to own a bb gun?
Well, this question seems a lot easier to answer than it actually is. A bb gun is not a real firearm, it is operated by gas (CO2) or by compressed air. Although a bb gun can be just as dangerous as a real firearm if they are mishandled, they are not "true" firearms. Real firearms use ammunition cartridges with gun powder to fire the projectile down the barrel. Many times on this Web site I mention that bb guns should always be treated as if they are real guns. BB guns can fire a projectile just as large and just as fast as some real firearms, so safety is always the top concern. Please see my answer to another child's question. They do not fall under the regulations of real guns, however, there are thousands of state and local laws and ordinances around the nation that regulate how, when, where and by whom, bb guns can be owned and operated. In some areas, you must be at least 16 years old and in others there are no regulations at all. Your best bet would be to have a parent contact your local police department's business number and ask them to clarify the current law for you. It would be very irresponsible of me to say what I think the law might be, because it would be merely a guess at best. I do know that there are more than 25,000 federal, state and local laws and ordinances that regulate the ownership and transportation of real firearms. Many states have left bb gun and air gun issues alone, while some states are treating bb guns as if they were real rifles. I wish I could help you out more with this question. The best thing to do is to contact your local law enforcement agency's business number and simply ask for a clarification on the current regulations.

There are three main types of guns.

Should the parents do the time if the kids did the crime?
Interesting question, please allow me to say what I think on this topic. The central thing we need to really focus upon, when trying to determine punishment for a crime is responsibility. RESPONSIBILITY for a crime should always be the determining factor when asking who should be punished for a crime. It is always the parent's responsibility to make certain that their children know the difference between right and wrong and between what is moral, upstanding and honest, and what is immoral, evil and deceitful. It is the parent's job and more specifically the father's job to make absolutely certain that his children conduct their lives within the framework of morality and religion. If the child is compelled by the parents to conduct their lives properly while they are young, then the child will develop a good, sound and upright character when they get older. However, if when the child gets older, they choose of their own free will to commit crime, use drugs or do immoral and illegal things, it would be unfair and unjust to hold the parents responsible for the immoral, illegal and uncivil conduct of their children. The rates of crime among very young children have been climbing pretty steadily over the last few decades. It is very disturbing to me, when I see very young teenagers who are so far out of control, that it would take something as drastic as military boot camp to straighten their lives out. The answer to your question is an emphatic NO. The parents of a misbehaving child should never be held legally and/or criminally responsible for the immoral and illegal conduct of their children. The parents must be responsible enough to carefully teach their children how to properly conduct their lives, but it is completely up to the child on what they do with that information. Why should adults with children ever own a gun? And why do some adults misplace guns where children can get to them?
Adults with children have owned firearms since way before Christopher Columbus discovered America in the year 1492. Guns have been around since just before the year 1300. Guns are nothing new to families and homes. Young children and guns have been together in the same homes for about 680 years, way back in the 1320's. Years ago, in early America it was common for children as young as eight (8) to ten (10) years old, to go out hunting with their Dads and Uncles and bring home wild animals for food. And to be taught how to use guns even younger than that. Firearm ownership in early America was very common. There were no grocery stores and only the rich people didn't have to go out and hunt for food. Today, things have changed. There are grocery stores everywhere and hunting is not a required family activity necessary for survival. Today, shooting guns is mostly recreational and is a hobby for about eighty million (80,000,000) men and women across America. Today, millions of Moms and Dads are concerned about violent crime and have guns in their homes to help protect themselves from bad people who may want to do harm to their families. The decision to own a gun in a house with young children should be taken seriously and be treated with thoughtfulness, with safety being a primary consideration. In early America nearly every home had at least one gun in it. Today, almost half of all homes contain a gun. This statistic means that if there is no gun in your house, it is likely that some of your neighbors have at least one of them in their homes. You asked me why some adults misplace guns where kids can get at them, and that is a very good question. I never advise adult gun owners with young children to hide loaded guns in their homes. There are many products available that can keep guns ready, but safe from the curious hands of young children. But more important than child-proofing guns, is to gun-proof the child. In other words, show the child what a gun is and what it does, how to stay safe and what to do if they find a gun somewhere with no supervision. Proper gun storage is something that has to be decided by each adult in the house. Some kids as young as four or five can learn how to handle a gun properly, with the right training. My child shot his first gun at four years old. A police officer I know of also shot his first gun at four years old. Teaching a child about gun safety and teaching a child how to shoot while still young, I believe should be a part of each child's upbringing. Even if the child's parents don't have any guns in the house, it is very possible and probable that the child's friends or neighbors do have one in their house. That is precisely why I made this page for kids and why I am answering this very question. a lever that will change the action of the firearm a from traditional single
action semi-automatic to double action only, where the recoiling slide will not
cock the hammer. In that case, the trigger would both cock and release the
hammer, performing two actions that is why it's called double action. A few of these levers may be on each side of the handgun

So I will answer the question here, because I think it's very important for kids to understand. First of all, we have to rephrase the question because guns don't kill anything. Bad people sometimes use guns to commit a crime with. Sometimes people mishandle a loaded gun and that causes a death. But guns do not cause anything. Guns are an inanimate object. Guns are merely mechanical devices that discharge ammunition. The person operating the gun does everything else. The operator chooses where the bullet goes and when it gets fired. Anyway, now that I've straightened that out, let's take a look at the year 2001. In 2001, there were a total of 2,937 gun related deaths from all causes and all children ages 0 to 19. There were 182 deaths due to accidents. 928 kids killed themselves on purpose due to suicide. 1771 kids were killed by murderers. 26 of them were killed by police or by homeowners because the kids broke into a house to rob it, committed a crime or something like that. Another 30 kids were shot dead in 2001 with the source of the death being undetermined. It is important for you to know that this rate of death for young people is quite low.
